Why don't the U.S. government or U.S. energy companies have the oil-spill cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. Nearly oil-free isn’t good enough for the U.S. regulators, who have a standard of 15 parts per million — if water isn’t at least 99.9985% pure, it may not be returned to the Gulf of Mexico.

The climate change debate has killed hundreds if not thousands of people, according to "The Dirty Climate Debate," an article published in the Yale Law Journal. The deaths, along with other health tolls and widespread environmental damage, are a consequence of a change of heart by leading environmental organizations in the U.S., as part of their strategy to win the climate change debate.

90 top global warming scientists have turned their sights on the biomass energy industry, until recently seen as allies, warning that biofuels sometimes increases rather than decreases greenhouse gas emissions.

That ethanol in your gas tank, the climate change scientists are telling us, could be bringing us closer to Armageddon by undercutting their efforts at saving the world

Four years ago, when I first started profiling scientists who were global warming sceptics, I soon learned two things: Solar scientists were overwhelmingly sceptical that humans caused climate change and, overwhelmingly, they were reluctant to go public with their views.

No longer.

  • Solar scientists are increasingly conveying a clear message on the chief cause of climate change: It’s the Sun, Stupid.
  • The Big Chill on freedom of expression that scientists once faced when discussing global warming is becoming a Big Thaw.

Global warming is all-but irrelevant to the spread of malaria, according to a study released today in Nature. In contrast, global warming policies based on the belief that global warming promotes malaria are harming efforts to eradicate malaria.

"Climate change is, in our view, an unwelcome distraction from the main issues,” according to Oxford University’s Peter Gething, the study’s lead researcher...

...Models based on climate change redirected disease-prevention efforts away from regions where they were most needed to address the true health needs of Africa.

“As a scientist who knows the data, I simply can’t accept (the claim that man plays a dominant role in Earth’s climate),” said Dr. Jeff Kuhn, Associate Director of the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii.

Dr. Kuhn last week announced breakthrough research on the role of the Sun – after years of precise satellite measurements, undistorted by Earth’s stratosphere...

The Attorney General of Virginia, Ken Cuccinelli II, has made the most reasonable of demands: He has asked the University of Virginia for documentation to assure taxpayers that taxpayer funds weren't improperly spent in research involving Michael Mann, author of the now discredited Hockey Stick Graph.

This demand for accountability has met with uproar in the scientific community...

The State of Virginia has decided to investigate possible wrong doing by Michael Mann of Climategate fame...Virginia's investigation is the first by a government on this side of the Atlantic into possible wrongdoing related to climate change. Other government investigations are likely.

The Arctic ice set 30 records in April, one for each day...While Arctic ice has always varied greatly, expanding and contracting during the course of a year and also from year to year and decade to decade, the expansion of the Arctic ice this decade is significant in one respect: It acts to disprove the models that had predicted that the Arctic ice in this century would not recover as it had in previous centuries.

About Lawrence Solomon

How does a lifelong environmentalist end up writing a devastating rebuke of the manmade global warming “consensus?” Easy. Solomon saw politicized science firsthand during his long career as an antinuclear activist. In the 1980s, the “consensus” among scientists was that nuclear power was safe, and scientists who said otherwise, no matter how eminent, were marginalized as kooks. When Solomon started to hear about the so-called scientific consensus on global warming, he began asking questions. What he found was exactly what his earlier experience indicated he would find...MORE
